
Opleiding: Course Introduction to Java Programming

The course Introduction to Java Programming is provided by the Institute for Life Science & Technology, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.
When you want to develop a serious application in the field of bioinformatics, Java is the programming language of choice. The course “Introduction to Java Programming" will give an introduction to both programming with Java and the main concepts of object-oriented (OO) programming.
After attending Introduction to Java programming:
- you have basic knowledge of all important aspects of the Java programming language;
- you will be able to create a small to medium sized application using the Java programming language.
You already have some knowledge of Java? We can organize a more advanced course for groups of participants with prior scripting knowledge. Please contact us for more information.
Doelgroep
The course is intended for people in the field of (medical)biology/bioinformatics wishing to learn object-oriented application programming. This includes PhD students, Master and Bachelor students, Post-Docs, lab technicians and other life science professionals.
Programma
The subjects that will be dealt with are:
- write and use all basic Java syntax elements
- design and implement Java classes (object blueprints)
- translate a given data model into an object model
- read from and write to files
- perform data filtering and transformation
- implement custom sorting routines on objects instances of custom classes
- use an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for the development of your applications
- build a simple Graphical User Interfacte (GUI)
Each session will contain both theoretical and practical parts. Besides these sessions, participants are expected to invest in practice themselves. The course will be accompanied/supported by PowerPoint presentations. Technical information and examples will be available online.
