Opleiding: Course Introduction to data processing with Python
Leerdoel
The course Introduction to data processing with Python is provided by the Institute for Life Science & Technology, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.
The course Introduction to data processing with Python will teach you how to use simple programming techniques (scripting) to deal with the huge amounts of data that modern biomedical experiments generate, such as next-generation sequencing and other high-throughput platforms. You will learn how to write scripts (small programs) using the Python programming language.
Doelgroep
The course is intended for people working with (biological) data, wishing to learn how to effectively and efficiently deal with them. This includes PhD students, master and bachelor students, post-docs, lab technicians and other life science professionals.
Programma
At the end of the course you will be able to:
- load text-containing (sequences, tab-delimited, csv, xml data etc.) data files
- filter textual data
- search for patterns in sequences
- write new, filtered or processed data to files
- do conversions and calculations on data
Each session will contain both theoretical and practical parts, but with primary focus on practice. You are strongly encouraged to bring in your own current data processing problems. After an initial general introduction into programming you will be working on the data processing problem that you are currently facing. However, please contact the course lecturer about the usability of your problem in the course before course start.
