Opleiding: Architecture (professional Master)
Leerdoel
Fontys School of Visual & Performing Arts:
the Academy of Architecture and Urbanism, Tilburg, the Netherlands offers the Professional Master course of Architecture.
The Master programme ‘Architecture’ is internationally orientated, topical, creative, conceptual, intellectual and practice based. The master study is a design-directed education: the process of learning is similar to the process of designing.
The educational concept of this Master programme is unique: education in concurrency with employment in the profession.
In this form of education one lays a bridge between the world of the professional practioner a three to four day’s job - in an architect’s firm or related, to the educational world of the Master specialist of Architecture.
This concurrent education offers students experience and education beyond the school curriculum, essential to his professional formation as an architectural designer. The concurrency model creates an inter-active climate. A climate in which daily practice ‘problems’ can be used as assignments in Studio work classes, and/ or as conceptual problems to be studied in the Architectural Design theory lectures at the Academy, and vice versa.
The Design Studio is the heart of the master programme. The most important aim of this study is the development of one’s design skills and methods through a challenging dialogue with the development of own’s position in the world of architecture. The student is challenged to produce experimental, nonconventional design- and realisation proposals.
The emphasis in the design studio is laid on ‘research design attitude’.
Programma
Objective
The core of the programme is formed by studio work: project learning. Students tackle individually or in small groups a certain ‘problem’ that is embedded in the assignment. The studio work is accompanied by various theoretical courses.
The philosophy of the Academy is based on the principle of studying next to working in the day to day practice of an architect's firm. This concurrent education offers students experience and education beyond the school curriculum, essential to his professional formation as Urban designer.
