Over 50 years of experience in Management Education
Maastricht School of Management has its roots in the Institute for Management Science at the Technical University in Delft dating back to 1952. In 1989 the school relocated to the historical city of Maastricht and in 1993 Maastricht School of Management was established in its own right. The city of Maastricht has fantastic business, political and cultural resources, and it was famously the place where the European leaders met in 1992, to sign the treaty that set up the European Union. Maastricht attracts tourists from all over the world and was declared “best city of the Netherlands’ in 2004.
The atmosphere at Maastricht School of Management is extremely international, partly because Maastricht itself is a very international city, a short hop away from all the major European capitals; and partly because MSM’s students come from all over the world. The campus is small and friendly, with committed, supportive staff. With more than 2000 students annually graduating at campuses in over 25 countries, Maastricht School of Management is the largest and most international business school in the Netherlands.
Because Maastricht School of Management runs outreach programs all over the world, its professors are constantly globetrotting to teach MSM students overseas – so students benefit from an international exchange of knowledge. Facility Management (program in Dutch)
Facility management is a multidisciplinary field, rapidly adopting the principles of professional management of services and organizations. The Executive MBA Facility Management, a Dutch program, is designed to offer facility managers a theoretical foundation in management knowledge and expertise with the objective to train their strategic insight in the complex and dynamic environment which facility management is. Its new leaders will be able to address developments in quality and environmental management as well as the impact of internationalization on facility management.
International Business
The aim of this specialization is to provide a critical understanding of theories and principles of international business. Doing business internationally involves a dimension that is a specialization in its own right. The specialization covers three selected issues from this field. The first issue is that of international economic policy, where a broad overview is given of various problems and decision making approaches. Secondly, it addresses liberalization of governmental policies with respect to trade. The international marketing course offers an overview of approaches to the marketing of products and services in an international market. Management problems of planning, organizing, and controlling the international marketing operations are the subject of class discussions. The international strategic alliances course finally discusses advanced techniques aimed at strengthening the internationally operating firm's competitive position.
Admission Requirements
The main prerequisite for admission to the (E)MBA Program is a sound academic background. Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor's degree from a recognized university, preferably with a foundation in economics and management.
Proficiency in English is absolutely essential to complete the (E)MBA Program, this doesn't apply to the specialization in Facility Management. Applicants whose previous education has been in a language other than English, must submit evidence of proficiency in the English language by achieving a score of at least 550 paperbased on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or 213 computerbased or a corresponding standard on an alternative test.
Three or more years of working experience is required for MBA, five or more years for EMBA. Candidates are admitted on a competitive basis.
MBA Facility Management
Het vakgebied facility management ontwikkelt zich continu. Enerzijds vindt er een professionalisering plaats binnen de traditionele driedeling van huisvesting, service en middelen. Anderzijds wordt het vakgebied voortgestuwd door de technologische innovaties o.a. op het gebied van data- en telecommunicatie-technologieën
De positie van de facility manager is volop in beweging. Het domein van facility management is niet statisch. Recente voorbeelden hiervan zijn ontwikkelingen op het gebied van Kwaliteit, Arbo en Milieu. Ook het onderbrengen van Inkoop en ICT en onderdelen van P&O en financiën als competentiegebieden binnen facility management vraagt de aandacht.
Tevens geldt dat vraagstukken op het vlak van globalisering en internationalisering van ondernemingen verregaande consequenties hebben voor facility management.
IFMEC heeft in samenwerking met de Maastricht school of Management een MBA Facility Management ontwikkeld waarin facility management centraal staat.
De MBA Facility Management is een algemene executive MBA van waaruit verdieping plaatsvindt in het vakgebied facility management op het vlak van bedrijfskundige kennis en kunde, met name gericht op het strategisch kunnen opereren in een complexe, dynamische omgeving. Belangrijke aspecten hierbij zijn het denken in termen van samenhang, het methodisch uitvoeren van onderzoek, het ontwikkelen van alternatieven voor organisatieproblemen en het implementeren van de gemaakte keuzes. Naast het verwerven van kennis en inzicht neemt reflectie op het eigen handelen een belangrijke plaats in tijdens de opleiding. Het programma bevordert de groei van hoogopgeleide professionals op het vlak van kennisverwerking, ervaringen, vaardigheden en attitude. Het draagt in belangrijke mate bij aan hun loopbaanperspectief.
Programma MBA Facility Management
Het MBA programma bestaat uit vijf modules (Commercieel Management, Operationeel Management, Financieel Management, Human Resource Management, Strategisch Management) en een afstudeerfase. In de modules wordt een groot aantal facilitaire thema’s vanuit een bedrijfskundig MBA-perspectief behandeld. Iedere module bestaat uit 4 tweedaagse bijeenkomsten afgewisseld met studie- en praktijkopdrachten. Een module wordt afgerond met een werkstuk dat gepresenteerd en beoordeeld wordt. De modules zijn onafhankelijk van elkaar te volgen. Hierdoor bestaat de mogelijkheid de opleiding over een langere periode te spreiden. De modules starten in februari en september en omvatten ieder 10 ECTS (European Credit Transfer en Accumulation System). Met de afstudeerfase, de eindthesis, kan worden begonnen als alle modules zijn behaald. De studielast van deze fase is 25 ECTS. De eindthesis gaat over een innovatief facilitair thema welke de merites van de eigen organisatie kan overstijgen. Aan deze eindthesis ligt een wetenschappelijk verantwoord onderzoek ten grondslag.
