Leerdoel
Technology for Integrated Water Management is tailored to professionals and university graduates and aims to develop their knowledge and skills in a broadening interdisciplinary perspective. Technology for Integrated Water Management is designed to equip the students with the competency to understand the state-of-the-art on water technology and integrated water management. The programme aims to improve the understanding of concepts and systems and enhances knowledge regarding tools and technologies. This will enable innovative planning and action from a new perspective and approach.
Technology for Integrated Water Management is organized jointly by the interfaculty Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development (IMDO) of the University of Antwerp and the interfaculty Center for Environmental Sanitation (CMS) of the Ghent University.
The graduate has acquired advanced scientific understanding and technological knowledge in water technology and in integrated water management. The graduate gains an in-depth knowledge of new technologies for water use and reuse based on an integrated water resources management approach. Students will learn to select and apply relevant tools for collecting, interpreting and assessing (qualitative and quantitative) information from a variety of relevant sources on water technology and integrated water management. They will be able to assess the quality and relevance of studies performed by others, but will also improve the skills to take an active part in evaluation work him(her)self. The graduate is able to formulate integrated proposals as a contribution to the solution and prevention water related problems and can critically analyze policy plans, management proposals and measures for implementation and contribute to their set up.
Doelgroep
Technology for Integrated Water Management is open to students who have a master’s degree (or equivalent) in: Sciences, Applied Sciences, Applied Biological Sciences or Nautical Sciences. Other masters can enroll, after a positive evaluation of their application file by the steering committee, on the basis of individual skills.
The working language of Technology for Integrated Water Management is English. In order to assure active participation, a good command of English in all aspects (written, spoken, and comprehension) is a prerequisite.
Programma
Technology for Integrated Water Management is focusing on specific academic knowledge and competences in the understanding of the water system and the application of technology to enhance integrated water management and –policy. This programme exists of 4 parts:
- The first part is a compulsory part focusing on the current state of knowledge regarding global water problems, integrated water management and integrated risk assessment.
- The second part offers a number of modules offering technologies for industrial, nautical or ecological water usage.
- Subsequently an integration of all gained knowledge will take place by the module ‘Integrated modelling and design of basin management plans’.
- In part 4 the students have to write a dissertation. The objective of the dissertation is to develop the students’ ability to write, present and discuss a theoretically-informed proposal on a particular issue related to one of the thematic modules.
