The master International Communication is provided by the School of Communication & Media, Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen.
Five universities across Europe, all specialising in communication and public relations in international professional contexts, have joined forces to create a unique joint programme offering you the full benefit of their collective expertise and international networks: the Master International Communication (MIC). The Hanze University is one of these six schools.
MIC graduates:
- are interculturally competent communication professionals;
- are able to work in a global context;
- are able to create, offer and manage sustainable and innovative solutions to problems from the professional field at a senior managerial or consultancy level.

Students who want to take the best from educational international communication.
Programma
A core programme will be offered, and each university will offer three specialisations to be followed by students abroad. Your mobility in the second semester is compulsory. You will write the master’s thesis under the supervision of two universities, both awarding the graduate degree.
The institutions do not only complement each other geographically, but also in terms of specialisations and specific expertise and focus. The division of electives to be developed and offered is based upon this specific expertise taking into account chosen focuses.
The course will be based upon competence based learning. You will work on ‘real life’ cases brought in by companies and (governmental and other) agencies. Also, the greater taught part of the course will be formed by specialisations. Core competencies are English languages proficiency (as a second language) and intercultural competence.
Semester 1 - The Core curriculum
You study at one of the six partner universities and complete the following modules:
- The international business environment
- Corporate communication in an intercultural context
- Communication planning & management
Semester 2 - The communication professional in context
You complete your specialisations of one of the partner universities.
Semester 3 - The master’s thesis
