You live in the Netherlands, but you work in an international environment and English is the official language when communicating with your business partners and colleagues. Fortunately you can make yourself heard in English, so there is no problem there. But how can you communicate even better, so that you really understand each other? Different cultural backgrounds interfere with effective communication. Verbal and nonverbal aspects influence your business relationships. Politeness or bad manners - are they just the product of a point of view, of where you are from? Communication is usually like a fast train running, but because of the language barrier, you sometimes hesitate to come forward with your ideas. You may not always be sure about your own understanding of a situation. Or you wonder why the other person seems to be annoyed. In these cases, effective listening and asking the right questions will help increase your understanding and your communication skills, so that in the end, you walk your talk, getting just what you aimed for!
Result
Your communication skills have increased. You are able to express your wishes and objections, leaving no room for doubt. You understand your personal pitfalls and you know how to avoid them. Since you have become a good listener, you now understand how to influence difficult situations without imposing your own opinions upon the other. Giving and receiving feedback as well as critique are no longer issues you feel uncomfortable with. You are aware of any inhibiting ideas and feelings interfering in your communication process. You know how to 'read' verbal as well as nonverbal communication in a multicultural environment. This enables you to interpret the reactions of your partner more effectively and to anticipate on the decision-making processes in your organization.
Course content
This training has a strong focus on practical experience. Following various brief theoretical presentations, you will extensively work on your skills. While practising, you will work from situations taken from your own professional experience.
The course covers the following subjects:
- dealing with difficult partners;
- interaction and interaction styles;
- giving and receiving feedback;
- establishing personal boundaries;
- dealing with unproductive emotions; intercultural sensitivity.
Doelgroep
Target group
In your current organizational role, you work with people from different cultural backgrounds. Either that, or you are a person with a foreign nationality, working in the Netherlands. In any case, you work with people from different nationalities and backgrounds, either within your team, between teams and / or with external parties. You wish to achieve maximum results. At the same time, however, you want to preserve a good working relationship with the other party. You want to learn how to influence communicative situations effectively, dealing with different cultural expectations on the way.
Programma
Duration
The total run time of the training is 3 months. The training consists of an intake, 3 blocks of 2 days and intervision meetings.
Intake
The training starts with a one-on-one conversation with your trainer. This conversation will either take place in Zaltbommel or at a different location. The goal of the intake conversation is to discuss and lay down your goals and motivation. Sometimes, you will realize that other trainings, or even individual paths, are more suitable for your learning needs. Upon this conclusion, we will give you advice, in which we will also involve your organization (our client). At the end of the intake, you will receive your training materials, or we will send them to you. In most cases, you will also receive a preparatory exercise for the first training session.
Block 1, 2 and 3:
- day 1 from 10.00 AM till 8.00 PM
- day 2 from 9.00 AM till 4.30 PM
